Colorful Butterfly ~ Video

Several months ago I sent my Father in law a card while he was recovering from surgery.  (Click here to see that card.)  He sent me the sweetest note and asked how I made the colorful butterfly on his card.   It's taken me awhile to get the video filmed and put up on the blog.  I was saving it for Spring.  Finally I am able to show all of you how I made the butterflies.  It's very easy and in the video I show you two different ways it can be done.  Hope this helps you Papa Marty and Nana Joanie.

I've used different colors on today's card from the one I sent Papa Marty.  This card is for a friend who loves lilac almost as much as I do.

Don't you love how folding the wings before adhering the butterflies makes them look like they are about to take flight?

If you are viewing this post in an email or reader you may need to go to my blog to watch the video below.  Simply click on the post title at the top (Colorful Butterfly...) to go to my blog and watch.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  This technique is such a pretty one, and once you learn it, it's pretty easy to recreate.

For Papa Marty's card I tied some twine around the butterfly and tied it in a knot at the top.  It's a nice added touch.

Creative Blessings,
Heather

Happy Birthday, Friend

For some reason this card makes me smile.  Perhaps it is because I know the friend I am sending it to will smile as well.   I inked up the flowers from the Oh, Hello stamp set with Regal Rose and Wild Wasabi markers.  Then I stamped them directly onto my doily.

To make the image pop, I punched out a 2 1/2" Whisper White circle and adhered it behind the doily.  The nice thing about this is you can still see the Twitterpated DSP behind the lacy edges.

The strip along the bottom was made by stamping in versamark onto Regal Rose cardstock and adding clear embossing powder on top, then heat set it with my heat tool.  It's a fun way to make your own paper patterns.

Heather North

Bird with a Heart ~ Video

The challenge last week at StampNation was to create a card that makes you think of Spring.  Before moving to WA the things that made me think of Spring were Easter, pastels, flowers and green everywhere.  Now that I live up here, Spring comes much later.  The birds are the first sign of Spring for me now.  So, I made a card with birds.

The card base is River Rock cardstock.  I embossed the bottom with the Needlepoint embossing folder.  The leaves were punched out using SU Bird Punch in Lucky Limeade and Pear Pizazz cardstock.   I attached them with my Tombow Mono Multi glue.

The heart feathered bird was fun to make.  It's hard for me to explain so I filmed a video for you. ;)  One thing I forgot to mention in the video is that I sponged the birds using Baja Breeze ink.

***Note*** If you are viewing this post in your email or blog reader you may need to go to my blog to view the video.  Click on the post title "Bird with a Heart" above and it should take you to this post.

Now I challenge you!  What reminds you of Spring?  Make a Spring card using anything that makes you think of this delightful season.

Heather North

You Are Perfect

Have you ever used white embossing powder on black cardstock?  The results are stunning in person.  Your image just jumps off the page.

What impressed me the most was how crisp the lines are on this stamped image.   I love the scroll work, but was afraid it might turn out blurry when embossed.  As you can see, it didn't.  Yay for Stampin' UP! stamps.  I continue to be impressed by them.

Even though SAB ends on Friday, I'll be keeping this FREE set for a long time.  I love all the scripts in this sentiment set.

Hello, Hello

One of the things I love about making cards is that I get to try out new styles, trends and colors.  Things I wouldn't want to try in my scrapbooks I can try out on a card.  Sometimes it's a fail and sometimes I love it so much it becomes a staple in my crafting arsenal.  Almost all the time I have fun with it though.

The Hello, Hello image was colored with Tempting Turquoise and Wild Wasabi makers then cut out using the hearts Framelit.

If you like that Vine Street Embossing Folder then be sure to get your order in by Friday when it goes away.  SAB ends on March 22, 2013 and I don't want you to miss out on a thing.

It's not my best work ever, but I'm sure whoever gets it will be happy to see it in their mailbox.  Struggling through this card helped me get my Mojo back.

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

More Monday

Here are a couple more of the cards I made at a recent stamp camp.  It was fun playing with some stuff I don't own...yet.  ;)

This stamp set is for the Ronald McDonald Charity house.  A portion ($3) from each stamp sold sold goes directly to this wonderful organization.   The stamp set was so fun to work with.  I really need to bump this one up on my wish list before it's gone.

I even stamped the inside of the card and the envelope because I thought those flowers were so cute.

I have everything I need to recreate this card at home.   Wouldn't it make a great birthday card for a guy of any age?

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

Sale-A-Bration ends in 4 DAYS!!!!  Make sure you place your order before it's over.   Once those items are gone you might not ever see them again.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

We don't really celebrate St. Patrick's Day at our house, but I do try to wear green on the 17th of March every year.  :)  Something I learned in grade school that has stuck with me.  For all of you that do celebrate this holiday, this card's for you!

To create the shamrock I cut out 4 hearts using the Fashionable Hearts Embosslit.  I ran the heart through my Xyron sticker maker to get sticky on the front and then I poured Dazzling Diamonds all over my hearts.  (You could use 2 Way glue if you don't have a Xyron.)

The sentiment comes from Teeny Tiny Wishes.  Is there any occasion that this stamp set won't cover?  It fits wonderfully in the modern label punch.  I punched out a second label in Gumball Green cardstock to help the sentiment pop off the card base.

Hope whatever you are doing today it is fun.  May the luck o' the Irish be with ya!

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

Celebrate Green

Spring is on its way and green is popping up everywhere, even on my card today.   In honor of St. Patrick's Day this weekend I have two green cards for you.  I'll show you my shamrock card tomorrow.  ;)

The hearts were made using the Fashionable Hearts Embosslit.  I then used a dimensional on each of them to pop them up off the square.  When the card was finished I added Crystal Effects to each heart which gave it a really glossy finish when they dried.

The tag was super easy to make.  First I stamped Celebrate from the Seasonal Sayings stamp set in Gumball Green onto Whisper White card stock.  Then I cut it out using the Apothecary Accents Framelits.  Then I added some "stitch lines" with my Gumball Green marker.  I used my Crop-A-Dile to punch out a hole in each side of the tag and threaded a strip of Lucky Limeade Bakers Twine through the holes.

Hopefully this green card makes you think of Spring.  I'm told it's coming.  In fact it's time for me to head out to the baseball field.  My youngest has tryouts today.  Hope you have a great weekend and Spring comes soon to your home.

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

Easter Blossom Blessings ~ Video

My last Easter card from my one-on-one class last week, and I save the best for last.  Thankfully my friend's favorite Stampin' UP! color is also mine, so when I asked her which color she wanted to use for our last card, she chose Wisteria Wonder.   What am I going to do when they retire it?  Probably grab Perfect Plum.  :)

Easter is only 2 weeks away, so if you want to get some Easter cards made I suggest getting the Easter Blessings stamp.  You can pair it up with any flowery stamp set you already own and make a lovely card, or use it on its own like we did for yesterday's card

The ribbon flower that is available in the Spring mini is so soft and pretty, but it only comes in one color...Vanilla. What's a girl to do when she wants more colors? Watch the video below and see a SUPER EASY trick for coloring your flowers.

***Note*** To watch the video above you may need to head over to my blog.  Simply click on the blog post title above (Easter Blossom Blessings) and it should take you right to this blog post.  ;)

May your day be blessed with creativity.

Creative Blessings,
Heather North
