Sale-A-Bration starts today!   If you don't know what SAB is, it's the biggest event of the year for Stampin' UP!  For every $50 in orders you get to chose a SAB item for FREE!

On my card today I have used two of the SAB items available, Banner Punch and Sweet Sorbet DSP.   I also paired it with the speech bubble from Essentials Wooden Elements.

My inspiration for today's card comes from the fabulous Seize the Sketch Challenge.

Spring Occasions Swap ~ Just Because

Back in February I was in a Spring swap.  The swap hostess had some serious family emergencies to take care of, so getting our swaps back was delayed.  A completely understandable reason to wait for our swaps.   When the package finally arrived I knew it was worth the wait.  Oh my!  These ladies are so talented.  I'll show you their pictures later this week, but for today, here is mine.

I ended up with 2 designs for this card.  The original one used the Pool Party ribbon available during Sale-A-Bration, but I ran out of it and didn't have enough time to get more before the swap was due.

When the SAB ribbon ran out I pulled out my Pool Party Seam Binding and came up with a plan B for the rest of the swap cards.

This time I ruffled the ribbon and tied a bow instead of a knot.  I also changed the placement of my stamped image from Collage Curios.

I filmed a video on how to mass produce these cards, but I filmed the video late at night and it took about 45 minutes.  That's a LOT of editing to get it down below 15 minutes for YouTube.  I did try, but I wasn't successful.   At this point I am thinking about starting over with a new video.  :)

Swaps are so much fun.  If you ever have a chance to do one, you should give it a try.  I always learn something in the process and waiting for that package to arrive with your swap cards is half the fun.

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

Trellis Card

I'm back!   I'll do a recap on my Sunday Share with all that has gone on in the past 3 weeks, along with pictures, but for now I can tell you I was in...

Rochester, WA
Olympia, WA
Redding, CA
Lacey, WA
Oakville, WA
Astoria, OR
Seaside, OR
Cannon Beach, OR
Chehalis, WA
Centralia, WA
Portland, OR
Sacramento, CA
Corning, CA
Chico, CA
Biggs, CA
Yuba City, CA

Yep, 3 states in less than 3 weeks.  Actually I was in each state at least twice!  Wow!!!  No wonder I'm tired.  Here is one of only 2 cards I managed to make in that time period.  It was for a SN challenge.

Basically I used the diagonal plate on my scoring board to make a trellis background for my flowers.  Then I sponged over the paper using Wild Wasabi ink to make the score lines show up a bit better.

The flowers are from the Mixed Bunch stamp set.  When I made the card I was wishing for Spring to arrive so I made a bright fun card.   The sentiment was stamped onto Whisper White then punched out using my ticket duo punch.

I'm getting back in the groove.  Today I made my first card in 12 days.  I'm a bit rusty and it took me forever, but I'm pleased with the end result.  I'll show you that card tomorrow.  :)  Hopefully I'll be able to get back into the swing of posting daily for you.

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

You Are Perfect

Have you ever used white embossing powder on black cardstock?  The results are stunning in person.  Your image just jumps off the page.

What impressed me the most was how crisp the lines are on this stamped image.   I love the scroll work, but was afraid it might turn out blurry when embossed.  As you can see, it didn't.  Yay for Stampin' UP! stamps.  I continue to be impressed by them.

Even though SAB ends on Friday, I'll be keeping this FREE set for a long time.  I love all the scripts in this sentiment set.

Hello, Hello

One of the things I love about making cards is that I get to try out new styles, trends and colors.  Things I wouldn't want to try in my scrapbooks I can try out on a card.  Sometimes it's a fail and sometimes I love it so much it becomes a staple in my crafting arsenal.  Almost all the time I have fun with it though.

The Hello, Hello image was colored with Tempting Turquoise and Wild Wasabi makers then cut out using the hearts Framelit.

If you like that Vine Street Embossing Folder then be sure to get your order in by Friday when it goes away.  SAB ends on March 22, 2013 and I don't want you to miss out on a thing.

It's not my best work ever, but I'm sure whoever gets it will be happy to see it in their mailbox.  Struggling through this card helped me get my Mojo back.

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

Crepe Paper Flower & Happy Hello Purse

Last month I showed you how to make a box using the Happy Hello Simply Sent Kit (SAB).  If you missed that post, and the video that went with it you can find it here.  Clicky

After I turned off the camera I decided to play with the box and see if I could turn it into a  purse or Easter basket.

The handle is just a strip of Pink Pirouette Cardstock with one of the grey stickers on it from the same Happy Hello Kit.  I adhered the strip to each side of the box, then added a ribbon and some Large Basic Rhinestones.

Don't you just love the soft flower on the front of the purse?

I made a video showing you how to make one for yourself.  :)   If you are reading this post on an email you may need to go to my blog to view the video. Simply click on the title of the post above (Crepe Paper Flower...) and it should link you right to this post on my blog.

Easter Girl & 3 Challenges

From the time I was a little girl I've enjoyed coloring.  I'm not an artist, but there is something very soothing to me about coloring in the lines.  The challenge today at StampNation is to use an animal on your card, so I chose a bunny.  I used a blender pen and markers to color in this sweet girl looking at her bunny rabbit.

I used the color challenge at Color Throwdown for my color choices.  I had to add Certainly Celery for the grass though.  I just couldn't do the sky and grass the same color.  :)

After I colored in the images, I needed a sketch for it.   Usually I start with the sketch, choose my stamps, then my paper.  From the paper I choose my colors and embellishments.  This time I went a little backwards.  Retro Sketches to the rescue.  :)

The finishing touches of the 3 little buttons was certainly inspired by the sketch.  On the inside I stamped one of the greeting that came in the set, then added a leftover strip from the paper I used on the front.  It's a great way to use up those scraps!

That's 3 challenges with one card.  I would love to see what you come up with playing in these challenges.   Let me know if you do.

Heather North
