Daring Adventure ~ MM291

It's Friday and I have a Mojo Monday card to share with you!  Lately I've been making lots of floral cards, so this was a fun departure for me.  I pulled out my new Epic Day paper from the This and That collection and paired it with the Mojo Monday sketch.

 

The designers at Mojo Monday are awesome!  Every time I use their sketches I am pleased with the end result.  :)   This week it is round or square.  I considered making another oval card, like the one I showed yesterday on my blog, but I thought the square worked better for the masculine feel I was going for.

 

 

 

Don't you just love the extra wide banners?  I used lots of retiring SU products on my card: Scallop Square die, Color Spritzer, Not Quite Navy ink, Daring Adventure (sniff, sniff... this is a GREAT stamp set for masculine cards.  I use it all the time for the 12-18 year old crowd)  and the silver button I used may be retiring with the end of the Spring Mini. 

 

This card may be going in my OWH box.  I made it with Operation Write Home in mind.  Not sure about the button though.  I felt the card needed it, but I wonder if it makes the card too bulky.  I may play around with this design a bit more, but I can easily make 5 or 6 of these cards to send in.

Daring Swing Card

This was going to be my masculine Monday card, but life got in the way yesterday.  It's the week of Thanksgiving here in the USA and I braved the storm and shoppers to get food for my family. We've had flood watches along with lots of wind and rain.  Thankfully our house is on a slightly higher elevation, so we are fine here, but being out in the weather yesterday was not fun!  I didn't sit down until after 7pm last night and never did get my blog post up.  Thank goodness y'all are ok with me missing a day here and there.

It's kind-of a good thing I waited because now I get to use this card to play along with the challenge over at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

I have another Fancy Fold card to show you later this week.  Actually I have a 3rd card I'm going to try to make.  Perhaps I should just make this fancy fold week... hmmm... except there are a couple more challenges I want to participate in and I'm not sure I can make them all work together.  We shall see.

Scrapbook Sunday

I miss scrapbooking.  My scrapbooking stuff has been collecting dust most of the summer.  I'm currently working on July 2009 in our family album.  Yesterday the entire family was in the hobby room, and I got a chance to work on pictures of the Tillamook Air Museum.  I love working on those types of pages when the boys are around because they get excited about what I am doing.  Hopefully I will get some time to finish that layout this afternoon, so I can share it with you guys next week.  I find that once I jump in with scrapbooking I can usually get on a roll.

Today though, I thought I would share with you my first MDS2 page.  My Digital Studio 2 (MDS2) is Stampin' UP!'s digital creation software.  I purchased the kit that comes with an extra $500 worth of digital "stuff".  This page was made this morning, start to finish, using one of the predesigned pages in the kit, as well as some stamp images from Daring Adventure.  (also in the kit)  It was quick and fairly easy to do.  I still have a long way to go before I master digital, but at least I was able to create something with pictures I took last weekend.  I think I'm going to go back and add one more set of footprints going off the page.  I thought that area would be cut off.  :)

I chose MDS2+

 There is also an MDS2 (cheaper with less extras) a Free MDS2 Trial (if you've never tried out MDS2 and want to try before you buy), an MDS2 upgrade (if you already own MDS) and MDS2+(this is what I chose because I thought it would be easier to start if I had some options of things to "play" with.)

Birthday ~ Young Man

It must be "birthday boy" week.  My other son got invited to a birthay party, and he needed a card for his friend who is turning 17!  That seems impossible to me.  Wasn't I just a teenager?   I guess not.  :) 

Here is the card my son helped me with.   He picked the papers and told me what colors to add.   Basically it was blue and then Tyler told me his friend's favorite color is orange, so we had to add some orange. 

It uses the retired paper pack Well Worn, but you could substitute one of the current paper packs and make this card.  Daring Adventure stamp set is what takes center stage.   If you need a stamp set to make masculine cards for teens and adults, this stamp set is FANTASTIC! 

I used Teeny Tiny Wishes to stamp Happy Birthday onto the twill ribbon.  Stamping on ribbon is a cool effect.  The tags were punched out using the Jewelry Tag Punch and then I stuck them onto a safety pin.  Cute without being "girly".

Can you spot the orange tag I added?  Sorry, I don't know my Stampin' UP orange colors, but I think I pulled it from the Regals collection.  If you look at the inside you will see the Happy Birthday sentiment my son chose from the (retired) 2011-2012 Hostess set.  He chose it so that I could color the "i" Orange.

This time I didn't fancy up the inside with a money holder.  I had to run to the nearest ATM on the way to the party to pull out more cash so I had something for my son to put inside it.  :)  I rarely carry cash anymore, and the birthday earlier this week wiped me out.   LOL.  

It was great yesterday when I realized I needed a card for a birthday and I could go to my craft room to create it.  I didn't need to head into town and try to pick out a card.  The best part was I got to spend 15 minutes with my son (somewhat) involved with me in my crafting.  As a 15 year old boy, he doesn't find much interest in the creating of cards and scrapbooks, but since I was making something for his friend he humored me and helped by picking out elements.   :)   I cherish times like those.

Daring Adventure ~ Mojo 242/HSS119

It's that time of year.  Graduation invitations are pouring in.   This card would be perfect for any grad, but especially for the young men you need to give a card to. 

The inspiration came from this week's fabulous sketch over on the Mojo Monday blog and the challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

Perfect timing for me.  :)  I'll be doing at least one more card for this challenge, and hopefully get it posted in time.

 

Isn't this a wonderful sketch?  I loved the detail of the jagged triangle along that middle strip. 

I don't have a punch like that, so I decided to make my own. Then I filmed a video so you can make it too. :)

In the video I showed you the two options to finish this card.  Which do you like better?  The timepiece or the hodgepodge hardware?  I'm torn.  I like them both. 

Here's a peek at the inside.  This could easily work as a birthday card or Father's Day card.  The Well Word Designer Series paper works nicely for any masculine card or scrapbook page you may want to create.

Now to make a few feminine graduation cards for all the young ladies we know who are graduating.  :)

Today's card is meant to go to a friend of my teenage son.  Making cards for guys in their tweens & teens are a challenge for me.  Having 2 boys in this age group means I get lots of practice though.  :)

Don't you just love how Stampin' UP punches not only nest inside each other splendidly, but they are a perfect match for Stampin' UP stamps?  I inked up the stamp in Poppy Parade, then punched out the center using the 1" circle punch.  Then I inked the stamp with Island Indigo, and punched out the "Happy" circle using a 1 1/4" circle punch.  Next I layered it with the 1 3/4" scallop circle punch in Island Indigo cardstock, and I used the paper piercing tool to poke through the center of each scallop.

Happy Birthday Bro

Today is my brother's birthday, so instead of a Cardmaking 101 video, I'm showing you the card I sent him and using this opportunity to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY little Bro!

The inspiration for this card came from the card club I was in before signing up to be a Demonstrator myself.   These were the cards I made following Joan Robertson's instruction.  Thanks, Joan.  You are  the Diva of all cards.

As you can see in the cards above I tied a knot in the twill and added a safety pin and tags to the knot.  In the bottom card I left off the knot so it would be flatter for mailing.  I also added a sentiment and did some sponging. 

Well Worn Designer Series Paper and Daring Adventure Stamp Set are perfect pairs for masculine cards.  If you need some help coming up with ideas for creating cards for the men in your life, you are in good company.  I'll be posting a masculine card or two every week this month to help you and I build our stash of man cards.  :)
