Sew Sunday

New month, new goals on A Lovely Year of Finishes.  My goal this month is to finally make my name tag for our South Sound Modern Quilt Guild meetings.  I started this one over a year ago and never finished it.  I might scrap it completely and create something new, but it is high time I made a name tag to wear each month.  (It would also be nice if I could find my member pin, but I digress.)

Here is what I have so far.  The star is an orphan from my shooting star quilt.  I didn't do a stellar job with my 1/4" seems on this block (pun intended).  Instead of just throwing it out or ripping and re-sewing I decided to use it for my "name tag". For my name I signed with frixion pen and and hand-stitched the lines with sparkly purple thread.  All I need to do is sew the pieces together, square them up, then quilt and bind it.  Obviously I need to make this 2 hour "chore" a finish because it's been over a year sitting in my sewing room not being finished.

March Goals

In addition to the name tag I also need to decide what I am going to do with my arts walk quilt.  See yesterday's post for deets on that one.  I have a plan for how I'm going to quilt it, I just need to decide if I am going to add borders to the top first and how to do that and keep it looking "modern".  What are your March sewing goals?  Be sure to link up with Melissa and Shanna at ALYOF to be entered for prizes and awesome motivation.

Other sewing projects:
2 Birch Tree blocks for SSMQG
Applique NOEL blocks for my Holiday Chic quilt
Start Broken Herringbone Quilt (Class is next weekend)

Sometimes, publicly setting a goal is what it takes--good luck with this–I think it will make a fabulous name tag.

Isn't it silly how long a simple thing can sit waiting for us to get to it? I don't want to count the things I could finish in a couple of hours! =) Best of luck in finishing. That will be a very pretty name tag.

Hi Heather, I saw your nametag in the March ALYOF and I must say it is really a cool design. Is it yours? I tried to find your Shooting Star quilt that you mention, to no avail. I've designed a quilt for my daughter's graduation using this block, so I want to give credit where credit is due. Can you let me know details as in where you got the block (or pattern) or if it is your own design. Thanks! You can reach me at ephdra at gmail dot com
