You're Amazing... Dad

I'm blessed to be married to a wonderful man who happens to be the father of my children.  :)  He's not only a wonderful husband, but he is also an amazing dad.  I wanted his Father's Day card to reflect that.  Here is what I came up with.

Yes, I have (finally) been having fun with my box of goodies that arrived last week.   It was fun to choose my FREE stamp sets and paper packs.  :)
I've been looking at my favorite blog sites whenever I get a free moment, and so far I haven't seen many Masculine Father's Day type card to draw inspiration from. :(  It's a shame because I think the sets I just got are perfect for anyone, but especially the guys.  I finally decided that I would just open up my new box and start playing.  :)  Turns out it was EASY to create MASCULINE cards with my new stuff!!!

The baker's twine adds a nice touch without being super feminine.  The button brad is retired, but I thought it would be perfect on my card.  (If you want a similar look and don't have the brads you can punch out your DSP with a 1/2" circle punch and cover with Crystal Effects.  When it dries it will be shiny and glossy.)

As you can see I also had fun with the new Apothecary Accents Framelits Dies.  I embossed my main image with Black Embossing Powder onto both Whisper White and Island Indigo paper.  I couldn't decide which one I wanted so I went with both.  I cut off the ends of the Island Indigo piece so that it would fit better on my card.  Then I layered those pieces onto Basic Black cardstock, punched the corners with the ticket corner punch (retired) and wrapped some Bakers Twine around it.

So far this card could go to any Amazing person in your life.  The inside is where my kids will write their message to their dear dad.

One last look at today's card.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

Best Dad ~ Mojo 245

Have you missed me?  This week is the last week of school here in Rochester.  It's been an extremely busy week.  Thankfully I took pictures of the cards I've made, even though I haven't had time to post them.  :)

First up are the cards I sent out to my Dad and Father in Law.  I have to say I LOVE the new stamps sets I got.  They are GREAT for masculine cards.  If you are stumped on cards to make for guys, pick up some of these stamp sets and paper packs.

The inspiration came from this week's Mojo Monday

One of the cards was done with a Whisper White base and the other was done with Very Vanilla.

Inside of card uses the only Father's Day sentiment I have, besides the one in Teeny Tiny Wishes.  It's from a VERY old stamp set about nature.  :)

One of the cards is vertical.  The other is horizontal.

As you can see this card doesn't have to be a Father's Day card. It could be used for Birthday, Congratulations or just because. The sentiment on the inside tells the story.

Close up so you can see some of the texture and layers.

Thanks for checking out my blog today.

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

Forever Mom & Dad

Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad!  Today is not only my dad's birthday, but it is also my parent's anniversary.  Smart thinking on dad's part.  He's never forgotten an anniversary.  :)

Have I told you how thrilled I was when the stamp set You Are Loved made the new catalog?  It was my favorite set from the Holiday mini and I didn't have a chance to really play with it before the mini ended.  It's such a pretty, elegant stamp set.  Just my style.

I filmed a video to show you how I made this card, but I haven't had time to edit it yet.  Hopefully I will have that for you by Friday.

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

Mom's Life

Today I am doing one of the favorite jobs I have as a mom, chaperoning a field trip for one of my kids.  :)  It truly is a joy to get to spend the day with one of my boys and their classmates.  We are going to Seattle to the EMP/SFM (Experience Music Project/ Science Fiction Museum)  I hear the SFM has an Avatar exhibit going on.  It should be fun.

So, no card today.  My first order from the new catalog should be here some time today.  I hope to get time to play with my goodies this.  I've got several Father's Day cards to make (and send).  This is the last week of school for both of my boy's though, so I may not have the time.

On a happy note, baseball is officially over for one of my boys and unofficially over for the other.  There may still be a couple of pick-up games, but no more practice.  Yippee!  Bring on the summer vacation.

Heather North

Lost in my Craft Room

Friday night I started working on a special card for my parents.  I thought I would film a video of it on Saturday showing you some of the steps and the final assembly.  It was around 10am when I went out to the craft room on Saturday morning and I realized I would need to do a bit of cleaning before I could film.  Over 3 hours later it was time for a late lunch.  After lunch I watched a movie with the family (Lord of the Rings) and took a nap.  By the time I got back out to the craft room, finished cleaning 3/4 of it and filmed the video it was almost 11pm. Yep, it was THAT messy!  Sad thing is, the corner where I do most of my scrapbooking is STILL a huge mess.

Perhaps I need to find a better system for cleaning as I go.   :)  My room was set up mostly for scrapbooking, but cardmaking has taken over for the time being.  Now I have so many card making supplies that I really need to clean out and reorganize.  But that is for another day.  ;)
Here is a sneak peek at part of the card.  It took over an hour to load the video this morning.  Hopefully I will have that to show you by Tuesday.

U Rock My World, Dad ~ Mojo 244

My dad's birthday is next week, and I thought this week's sketch at Mojo Monday would be perfect for a card for him.  :)

The inside of the card is where I put the Happy Birthday sentiment from Perfectly Penned.  I also decorated it a bit with the compass stamp from The Open Sea.  It was punched with a 1 1/4" circle punch, then I punched out the Midnight Muse cardstock with 1 3/8" circle punch and layered them together

River Rock used to be my least favorite color in the SU line, but I find myself grabbing it often lately.  It is a great nuetral for masculine cards, and it is divine with the (retired) Well Worn DSP.

The sentiment was perfect to go along with the globe from the Open Sea stamp set.  You could easily swap it out for Happy Father's Day, Happy Birthday, Thank You, Thinking of You, Miss You, etc.  That is one of the things I love about card making... taking a design and changing it by using different colors, papers or sentiment.

I got that little compass charm from a local business called shipwreck beads over a year ago.  I think I'm going to suggest Stampin' UP come out with a compass charm to go along with Open Sea.

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

Happy Birthday Bestie

My childhood BFF just had a birthday today.  :)  We have been friends since the 4th or 5th grade.  Even though we don't see each other often, she is still someone I hold dear to my heart. I wanted to make something special for her to celebrate her day.  Here is the card I made.  Be looking for a video soon showing how to make this fabulous card.

When it is open you can see how the panel is part of the inside.  :)  Very clever.   (thank you to the creative people who have shown me how to make this partial cut, especially Dawn O. and Catherine P.)

After trying to take a picture of the card to show it to you I realized that I should have shot a video.  :) I like the way the light looks as it is coming through the label, don't you?

Yes, I used a lot of things that are retired on this card, but I love them, and wanted to use them for my longtime BFF.   When I film the video I will be sure to use current product so you can copy that one exactly.  :)

Happy Birthday Auntie Heather.  Wish I could have spent the day with you.  I promise to get your card sent out before your next birthday.  <3

Heather North

Language of Friendship ~ Retro Sketches #14

Ending my week of sketches, a day late, with this Clean And Simple sketch from Retro Sketches.

I'm still not sure whether I like this card or hate it, but it was fun finally using that bird on a card.

You have plenty of time to play along and join in the fun at Retro Sketches.  If you like sketches, this is a blog you should definitely add to your favorites.  They are fairly new, but I have loved every sketch they have done so far.

Have you had a chance to check out the new catalog?  Did you notice that Twitterpated Designer Series Paper (DSP) is still available?   I used a piece of it to make my little birdie.

She has a rhinestone for her eye.  I sponged the bird using Baja Breeze.  The sentiment was stamped in Baja Breeze.  It's difficult to see in the picture, but it looks nice in person.
