Vacation Mojo

Last week the kids were on Spring Break.  The sun was shining all but one day, so we spent most of the week outdoors.  It was wonderful, but I did miss my craft room.  This morning after the kids went back to school and hubby to work I headed to the room to play with the new Mojo Monday sketch.

There's nothing like a good sketch to really get your mojo flowing.  :)   Here is what I came up with.

The paper pack I used made coordinating the patterned papers easy.  :)

Tomorrow I will be back with a new sketch for the Stampin' Celebration mid-month sketch.

Need more tips and ideas for using patterned paper and sketches?  I have a lesson up in the StampNation forum right now in the Patterned Paper Classroom to help you out.  Not yet a member?  Clicky for more information.

Supplies:
Paper: Classique Elegance 6x6 Bundle - (Authentique),  Basic Black, Smoky Slate (SU)
Stamps: Tea Shoppe (SU)
Misc: 1 3/4" Circle Punch, Artisan Label Punch (SU), Stitched Scallop Borders (Lawn Fawn), Silver Embroidery Thread

Bye Bye Baja Breeze

Of all the things retiring from the old catalog I think I am going to miss Baja Breeze the most.  It's such a lovely color.  I can't believe it will be gone in a few short days.  :'(   Thankfully I have the ink pad, a re-inker and a package of cardstock to tide me over for awhile.  I'm also pretty excited about the new colors SU is releasing.  Especially that my favorite in-colors, Wisteria Wonder and Pool Party along with Blushing Bride, are now a part of our core color collection.  I really do like color.

To say goodbye to this color I made it the focus of my card.

The Tea Shoppe stamp set I used is retiring too.   I stamped it with Baja  Breeze then "fussy" cut it out.  It wasn't too hard to cut, but I would love to have a tea cup framelit.  My favorite little detail on this card is the stamp image "tea for two me & you" that I stamped upside down onto a doily.  It looks like steam coming out of the cup.

To help the "steam" show up better I punched out a 2 1/2" circle of white cardstock and placed it behind the doily.

The Fancy Fan embossing really shows up well in the picture above.   It's all the little details of this card that I love. The other stamp set I used was from the "Best of Love" stamp set.

Now comes the truly hard part.  Do I send this beauty to my mom or my grandma?  I think I will go make another one and send one to each.  :)

What are you going to miss from the current catalog?  What are you excited to get from the new catalog?  Will you be going on a shopping spree this weekend to get some from both?

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

May Day ~ Mother's Day

Yesterday was May Day.  Honestly, I don't know very much about May Day, but I do know that when I came home from the Modern Quilt Guild meeting last night there was this beautiful bouquet of flowers on the table.  Everyone was asleep, so I wasn't able to find out who gave them to us, but I have my suspicions.

Thank you my little May Day friend, these flowers brightened my day.  :)  I'm inspired to make another card.  Perhaps similar to the design team Mother's Day card I made for this weeks challenge at StampNation.

This is my first oval card.  I used the ovals framelits to create my card.  If you would like me to show you how, just leave a comment below letting me know and I will film a video for you.  :)

The teacup planter is stamped, then fussy cut out.  The flowers were colored using ink and a sponge dauber.  The doily was sponged with Crumb Cake ink to tone it down a bit before scrunching and placing behind the smaller oval.

Most of the flowers are not from SU.  They are just flowers in my stash.  I added basic pearls to the yellow and blue flowers.  The pink flowers have a white center created with the bitty punch pack and basic rhinestones.

I think I need to make another card like this one for my sweet neighbor thanking her for the flowers.  Or is the May Day delivery supposed to stay a secret?

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

Stay, Friend

Short and sweet today.  Here is a card I made a couple of weeks ago for a Mojo Monday challenge.  I wasn't able to photograph it and put it on my blog in time for the challenge, so here it is today.

It was fun to pull out the Twitterpated DSP paper pack.  I haven't used it in a long time, but I love the soft spring colors in the pack.  It's exciting to know that Blushing Bride and Pear Pizazz will be coming back.  I love both of those retired in-colors.

Speaking of the color refresh... if you haven't heard, SU is adding and removing some colors with their next catalog release.  That means some of your favorites may be returning (like Wisteria Wonder and Blushing Bride- YIPEE!) and some may be leaving (like Baja Breeze and Regal Rose- BooHoo)  All retiring colors are only available WSL.  Most of the re-inkers are already gone.  I had to buy an entire set to get what I wanted.  Thankfully I need to buy the entire set anyway.

One of the exciting things is that we get to see a new color, Smoky Slate.  I've been wanting a lighter gray, so I'm thrilled with this new offering.  I'm also happy that Pool Party is becoming a permanent part of our color line.  It's my newest favorite, and I have used it often in the past 4 months.

The Island Indigo brads and lace doily are the perfect touches to finish my friendship card.  Since I have been gone so much recently I think I need to make some more "friend" cards to let my friends know I miss them and haven't forgotten them.

Heather North
