We Honor Our Veterans

Thank you Veterans for all you have done to protect and serve our nation.  You are not forgotten!  Our family is forever grateful to you for your service.

Many of my friends and family have served and many more I will never know have sacrificed for the United States of America.  In honor of our nation's veterans and active duty military I have made this card to be sent to a hero through Operation Write Home.

My plan when I made this card this morning was to use the thank you sentiment from Perfectly Penned and some stars.  I remembered the Hero Arts stamp set I bought had stars in it, so I went looking for it.   I pulled it out and saw this sentiment, "I thank my lucky stars for you!", and I knew it would be perfect on my card!

Hopefully you were able to take some time this weekend or today to thank a veteran, but it doesn't have to be reserved for Veteran's Day weekend.  It's always a good time to let someone know we are grateful for what they have done for us.

Veteran who spoke at RMS assembly last Friday.  He is the grandfather to one of the students at RMS.  I could have listened to him all day.

My favorite part of the assembly each year.  The band plays a medley of each branch of the armed forces songs.  As each branch is played the veterans who served in that branch stand and everyone applauds them.  It bring tears to my ears and goosebumps to my arms every time.  This year my son is in 8th grade so he played the music.  Priceless moment for this proud mama.

Caught another veteran while photographing this wall.  Students colored medals and wrote names along with thanks to veterans they know.

Michael looking for the one he made for his grandpa.  <3
So precious.  I love that my son's schools take the time to teach the importance of honoring our nation's heroes.

Memorial Day Thanks

Today we Americans honor and remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation.  In honor of those who have served I have made today's card.  Thank you for serving.  Thank you for giving up your loved one so we can be free.  Thank You!

I made this card for OWH (Operation Write Home).  It will either be used to write an "any hero" message to our troops or it will go in the box for them to send out.  Either way would work.  I went to the OWH website to see if there was anything special going on this weekend and found the following picture that pierced my heart.

The picture says it all.  I did a google search for Memorial Day images.  There are some fabulous ones out there.  Here are just a couple that I wanted to share with you.

Now back to my card.  While making this card I thought about our troops and prayed for those who are serving, thankful for all who have served and said a prayer for those who have lost loved ones in service.  I never forget the spouses, children and parents who are on the homefront.  Their sacrifice is often just as great.

My card is a simple flag.  I used some paper that is about to retire and ran it through the Big Shot with the Top Note Die.  Next I embossed the red DSP with the Stripes Embossing Folder. I then took a small rectangle of blue paper and ran it through just the corner of the Top Note Die.  I used some snail to adhere the two patterned papers together.  Add a banner and you are done.  :)

What will you be doing this Memorial Day?  Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy your day and the freedom you have.  Take a moment or two to remember those who have died.  Perhaps make a card for someone who is serving, or a quilt for the wounded or a scrapbook page to preserve your family's memories.  Enjoy your campout and smores by the fire.  Hit the stores for some super sales.  Spend time with your family or even just enjoy a nap!   Enjoy this great nation that was bought at a very high price.

One more time I want to say thank you to our nation's heroes!  You are not forgotten!!!

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

I Remember

My son had an assignment due today asking 2 questions:

1) Where were you when you first heard about the attacks on 9-11-01?

2) What do you remember about 9-11-01?

It stunned me at first to hear my son say he doesn't really remember that day.  Don't get me wrong, he knows what happened, he just doesn't remember living through it.  Of course, he was just starting Kindergarten when our nation was attacked.  It's no surprise that he barely has any memory of that day.  I held him close, but I also tried to protect him from the fear I felt 12 years ago today.

His assignment was to also ask someone in their 20's and someone else in their 30's what they remember.   Personally I don't think I will ever forget where I was, how I heard, the sight of the second plane flying into the twin towers, the tears & fears of those in the midst of the rubble nor the heroes at ground zero.   Today my card is a remembrance card for all those who were affected on 9-11

It's important to never forget and also to continue to live.

Memorial Honor ~ PDC133

Our family takes the time, often, to remember and honor those who have served our country through military sacrifice.  We are blessed to live in the United States of America and know that our freedom comes at a high price.  Today our family will remember those who served and especially those who gave their lives, along with the loved ones who said goodbye to them.   I'm proud to have a father, and 2 grandfathers who fought for our country, along with uncles, cousins, in-laws and friends.   Thank you for your service.  You are appreciated and not forgotten.  May God richly bless you and your loved ones.  Please accept this "virtual card" as my way of honoring you.

The Play Date Cafe has the perfect color combo for any patriotic card.  You still have time to play along with this week's challenge and make a card for any service man or woman in your life.

I filmed a video hoping you could see the details on this card a little bit better.  My camera is still not focusing properly and it goes dark every time I press the shutter.  :(

For the background I stamped the Wonderfully Worn Background stamp onto Textured Cherry Cobbler paper.  The main image (Fresh Vintage SAB) was also stamped in Cherry Cobbler.  The soft blue image (Fresh Vintage SAB) is Bashful Blue, and the Thoughts of You (Loving Thoughts) is stamped in Midnight Muse (InColor 2012-2014).
