Marla's Birthday Card + Video

Have you missed me? I've been absent from my blog this week in preparation for some fun things come up.  First up will be World Card Making Day, next weekend.  We are starting the festivities on Friday, October 3rd when WCMD first hits the world and wrapping it up on Sunday in the last location to start WCMD in the world.  Pretty cool, huh?  That means LOTS of cards being made to inspire you over at StampNation.

I've also been working some projects for an upcoming Christmas card class.  More deets on that coming soon, but for now, here is a sneak peek.

While making these cards I've also been filming videos and that means more time editing.  YIKES!  I did manage to sneak in some time to create a card just for my blog readers and youtube followers.  I was working on WCMD cards and thought one of the inspiration photos would make a perfect birthday card for my friend, Marla.

I kept the camera rolling while I created this card.  The pink flowers ended up being WAY brighter than I expected them to be, but Marla loved it anyway.  She is sweet like that.

***Note-  If you are reading this post in an email or reader you may need to go to my blog to view the video below.

The layout for this card came from the awesome sketch this week at Freshly Made Sketches.  Any time I am in a "time crunch" I know that using a sketch will help me out.  Thanks to this sketch I was able to create my card, start to finish, in 50 minutes.  That is awesome considering all the coloring I did.  Thank you FMS!

Penny Black Card Video

On Tuesday my card was featured on the Penny Black blog as part of a design team collaboration with StampNation.  Yesterday I was reading all the lovely comments left on their blog and realized that several people wanted to know how I created the background for my focal point.   So, I made a video for all of you showing you exactly how it was made.

Special Spring Wishes

Spring is in full swing this week at the North household.  What does that mean?  Sunny days spent working in the yard, afternoons/evenings at the baseball field, windows open to let the fresh air in, quilt guild 1 year anniversary party and graduation invitations being mailed out.  Phew, what a week, and it's only Thursday morning!  I think I need some time in the hobby room for some card making therapy.  ;)

Springtime also means the flowers are blooming, the trees have leaves and there is green everywhere.  I love this time of year, and tried to capture it in my card!  Today on the StampNation website we have an extra special treat.  The design team from Penny Black is joining us for a very special challenge.

Just look at all that sunshine goodness!  Be sure to check out this week's challenge to see what the dream team and PB DT came up with.  Then join in the fun and post your own card for your chance to win 3 Penny Black stamp sets from their brand new release!!!

Basics & Beyond ~ Wonderful Day

My friends, Catherine, Chupa and Maureen, are launching a new class today called Basics & Beyond.   Boy do I wish this class had been around a few years ago when I was learning how to design & create cards.

Click here to see what the class is all about.  :)  I've already used some of the tips I picked up in the class to put together today's card.

I was also inspired by the following challenges:

CAS*ology: Paint

SSS Wed. Challenge Blog: Pearls
Simon Wednesday Challenge Blog
The Card Concept: Floral

Not sure if you would consider this CAS or Clean & Layered since I added pearls.  What do you think?

Feminine and Masculine

Happy Friday!  Friday is my favorite day of the week because it holds all the promise of the weekend.  Today I have two cards for you made using the same color palette from the Colour Me challenge.
CMCC #8
When I first saw the colors I thought they would make a nice baby card.  I still do, but that's not what I made.   First I made this floral beauty.

Isn't it lovely?  The dots in the background mimic the dots that are stamped on the focal panel.

My next card started out as a baby card, but turned into a Thank You card because I am in need of lots of thank you cards and no baby boy cards.

The panels were started in the same way as my floral card, stamping over and over down the paper to get a lighter shade each time.  The center panel was created by stamping first in Soft Sky, then in Pistachio Pudding.  The perfect colored chevrons are from a package I won during the Seasons Of Giving blog hop.  I love these so much.

I wasn't sure I could pull off CAS with this sketch, but I'm pleased that I did!   Thank goodness, because it means I can enter this week's Cardz 4 Guyz challenge to create a CAS masculine card.  CAS is often the safest way to go when creating cards for guys and it one of the reasons I strive to be a better CAS cardmaker.
