Blessings of Fall ~ Stampin' Celebration

Stampin' Celebration has moved to an every-other-week format, so I have a new challenge for you up a few days earlier than usual.  :)  This challenge is sure to get you in the mood for making fall cards, or at least using some of the lovely autumn colors.

SC88

This is my favorite time of year!  I love the long shadows of the sun, the cool crisp mornings and evenings, the amazing display of colors and the warm blankies on a rainy day.   Bring on fall!

My card was created by masking off a rectangle using post it note tape.  I started sponging with my lightest color on the right and moved left with darker colors.  Then I pulled out my long neglected Lovely As A Tree stamps set and inked it up in Early Espresso.  The finishing touch was to wrap some linen thread around the bottom.  You should have seen me debating between using my burlap ribbon and linen thread.  It is so hard to choose when both options look great.

I hope you will join us for this fall themed challenge.  Be sure to check out the website and see what the other amazing designers have come up with.

Supplies:
Stamps: Lovely As A Tree (Stampin' UP!), Fall Foliage (My Favorite Things)
Paper: Early Espresso, Scrap of DSP, Very Vanilla
SU Ink: Cajun Craze, Early Espresso, Hello Honey, So Saffron, Tangelo Twist
Accessories: Linen Thread

With Sympathy

Sympathy cards are the hardest cards to make and the most important thing to send.  Making them means that someone I care about has lost someone that they love.  It's heartbeaking, but it is good for them to know that we care.

Often I make sympathy cards with flowers in pastel shades.  For this card i went a bit more masculine with an oak tree in a late summer sunset.  My friend's father passed away last week.  Her mom past away recently as well.   The poor thing has lost both of her parents this summer.   The least I can do is send her a card and pray that she finds comfort and peace in her memories.

This card is similar to one I made at a Stamp Camp last Spring.  Today's card has the added addition of burlap ribbon, pearls and sunset colors.  If you would like to see the card I made last Spring CLICKY.  If you would like to see the masking technique I used you can watch the video below from that card.

***Note*** If you are unable to view video above, please click on the post title (With Sympathy) to go to my blog and watch the video.

For all of you who have lost a loved one recently, please know my thoughts and prayers are with you.   If you know someone who has recently lost a loved one, please take some time this week to send them a card letting them know you care.  You never know if it might just come at a time when they feel most alone.

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

Earth Day ~ Masking & A Video

To celebrate earth day I made a One Layer Card (OLC).  Shocking, I know.  It's okay though.  I made a second card with extra dimension just to even things out.  ;)   It was fun thinking about the earth, and making the most of our resources.  As paper crafters we often recycle, re-use, and upcycle.  Our stamps, inks and tools can be used over and over again.  We tend to save and use every little scrap of paper.  Today we can celebrate that!

To make this card even better, I filmed a video for you.  I kept the camera rolling after I made the first card and caught my second card on film too.  If you are reading this post in your email, be sure to click on the post title above, "Earth Day",  to visit my blog and watch the video.

It is so much fun to create your own background with just a little ink.

Don't you just love the little details on the bottom of my stepped up card?  I know I do.

Give this technique a try with a new color combo and see what you can come up with.  If you want to use River Rock, you better hurry.  The color has just retired and is only available While Supplies Last.

Creative Blessings,
Heather North
