Sew Saturday ~ Washington Star Quilt Guild Show

After two weeks of really focusing on cards I'm ready to get back into my sewing room.  Yesterday I took my camera with me up to Olympia to take some pictures of the Fall foliage on my way to the Washington Stars Quilt Guild show.  As soon as I walked in to the show I walked back out and asked if I could grab my camera to take pictures.

This jewel toned blue/teal stunner was front and center.  I cannot even imagine how long it took to create this.   I was expecting around 20 quilts, but instead there were over 300 quilts and 20 vendors.  My camera and my debit card were hot!
They had a wide variety of styles and technique represented including some modern.  I wish I had a close-up on the quilting of this quilt.  It is beautiful.  This is my first time going to a quilt show since I've started FMQ and I noticed the quilting styles in almost every piece I saw.

This is one of the quilts that blew me away!  Not only the piecing but the quilting and the colors.  This lady is an artist.  Look closely at the quilting in the diamonds and contrast it with the quilting of the white next to it.  The quilting helps your eyes to flow around the quilt.

This island themed quilt was HUGE!  I love the colors she used and went closer to see which fabric she used and overheard the designer talking about coloring this fabric with a freezer paper technique.  Are you kidding me?!  Another artist, for sure.  The quilt was lovely on it's own, but again I noticed how the quilting around the design elements really makes them stand out.

Log cabin is one of my favorite blocks to make.  It's so easy and looks so good and you can do so many things with it.  (yes, I know that's a run-on and on and on sentence)  What I loved about this log cabin was the twisted scroll in the whit section.  She did such a good job with those sharp points and smooth curves.

I could probably keep the eye candy going for days, but I don't want to bore you, so I'll end with this modern chain.   I thought the lines coming out the sides of the chains was pretty cool, and like the detail of the little blue blocks.  This quilt reminded me of a pattern by Melissa Dunworth of SewBitterSweetDesigns.  Her pattern is almost like a double chain, but I can see adapting it to add these lines on the sides, can't you?

Quilt Show

If you are in the Olympia/Lacy, WA area go check them out.  The show is at the Washington Land Yacht Harbor located at  9101 Steilacoom Rd SE, Olympia, WA.  Today is the final day of the show.  Be sure to get your coupon from Ruby Street Quiltworks and Bayside Quilting.  Your wallet may not thank me but your heart will be HAPPY!

Creative Blessings,
Heather North

P.S.  If you are looking for the World Card Making Day card kit giveaway winners, clicky here to go yesterday's post.

P.P.S.  I can't resist showing you one more.  The pieced tiger was even more impressive in person.  After seeing these quilts I know I can never win a quilt contest.  Holy cannoli these ladies have some serious quilting skilz!!!

More amazing quilting.  Will I ever come close to being this good?  Doubtful.  Very doubtful.  My husband asked me "why?" and I told him I don't have a good enough machine.  ;)  He rolled his eyes at me, so I added, and I'm just a beginner.  It's going to take a lot of practice to reach this level.

Thanks for sharing photos from the show for those of us who couldn't attend. If you have more, would you consider feeding a few through each time you post??! Would love to see them!

Sure! I didn't want to have so many pictures in this post that it was hard to open. :)
